April Foodie pen pals

This marks my third month of taking part of foodie pen pals. Each month is even more exciting as the last. It’s crazy to be getting all different kinds of things from each package. We are all so different, but our love for food brings us together as friends. I fell in love with everything Kate sent me this month. Get ready for all of the AMAZING abundance of goodies I received from Kate! She’s the sweetest girl!

The first thing I found was a gorgeous spring card from her. She said she looked for healthy items, because I mentioned to her I love finding new health food items. But she also wanted to send me some chocolate. Because how can anyone live without chocolate? I wouldn’t know!

I was so excited to see all of those treats right when I opened the gift bag.

On the day I received everything it was pretty hot outside. The two little chocolates were a little melted. I enjoyed one and put the other in the refrigerator. J I loved trying the raw products she sent. I had been meaning to try them out for a while. My favorite was the raw pumpkin super chips. I definitely need to buy more. Amani loved them too. Another one of my favorites is the Dagoba chai chocolate bar. I’m still enjoying it slowly. You might not believe it, but I still have a few products I have not opened. There was so much!! Each time I try one of the products, I love it much more than the last.

That same weekend I baked the carrot spice scones. They were delicious! It serves a lot more than it says. They are very thick and taste like carrot cake!

Thank you so much Kate! I sent her an e-mail right when I got my package and I told her she’s my new BFF. Another foodie pen pal turned friendship. That has to be my favorite part of this program.

If you would like to make some extra friends and be a part of foodie pen pals:

-On the 5th of the month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.

-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!

-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!

-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)

-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you can choose to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.

- Foodie Penpals is open to US, Canadian residents & UK residents.  Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa. So, I’m going to keep two separate lists and match US w/ US and Canada w/ Canada!

***If you’re in Europe, please contact Carol Anne from This Is Rock Salt at rocksalt@thisisrocksalt.com to get involved!

If you live in Asia or Australia and want to get involved, email me and I’ll see if we get enough interest.

To participate, just click here and fill out the participation form. It must be completed by May 4th to participate this month. If you don’t get a confirmation from me within 48 hours, send me an email!

If you are unsure if this is right for you, visit Lindsay’s blog to see all the fun we’re having!

Today I realized…

It’s Wednesday? Seriously, am I the only one this happened to? I really thought today was Tuesday! So that is why this is not a WIAW post. I’m a little wacky and confused this week. But don’t worry; I will be back next week with some great meals. I can’t wait to see what challenge Jenn has in store for us in May.

I’m fitter than I thought. I finally had a chance to attend a spinning class this morning. I hate that my gym classes are very limited. They’re usually in the morning or at night. They need some more variety. Anyhow, I hadn’t been to a spinning class since last fall. When I went then, I had such a hard time. My legs were completely dead by the time class was over. Today, it seemed to come easy for me. I was one of the few that were able to keep up with the instructor. I had a lot of fun. I’m sure my running played a big part of that. I was moving with my legs and core instead of relying on my arms to lift me.

This summer is going to be crazy HOT! The temps this week have been in the upper 90′s all week. It’s still spring right? I took this picture this past weekend to show you how hot it is.

I’m so sorry if it is freezing where you live. But here in Texas, it’s crazy hot. Frozen yogurt and ice cream is in snack rotation around here.

I need an ice cream attachment for me Kitchen Aid mixer. I have been seeing so many ice cream recipes in the blog world; I can’t wait till summer to try out some recipes. I don’t want to wait. I can make my own flavors and keep the sugar low. Do you have any ice cream recipes you love?

Monday redo

Yesterday was a rough Monday for me. I’m usually not one for letting a “Monday” affect my attitude. I woke up sore from neck to calves. I ran almost 8 miles Sunday morning. I felt good; I thought it was a great run.

I know why I felt so crappy the next day. I was not listening to my body. I have a hard time listening to my body. I’m busy thinking about the million things I need to do in one day, I ignore what my body is asking for. I didn’t eat enough calories throughout the day and I paid for it on Monday.

I was so angry for feeling weak and tired all day yesterday. I had a headache from hell that did not want to go away!

I could have let this attitude affect the rest of my week. Come up with excuses to why I don’t really need to work out. Eat unhealthy food. Put myself down. I already started doing that. I had to immediately shut up that voice in my head that was already saying to give up because I wasn’t making a difference to myself or anyone else. I know that will just make me feel worse than I do now.

So, today is Tuesday. It is a new day. It is another chance to make a change. And another chance to begin the week with a positive attitude. I must move forward and not think about what I could have done yesterday or the day before that. A positive attitude can make or break the day for me. It’s all about the choices I make to become my best. Sometimes I forget working out should be fun. When it starts to feel like a chore, it is time for a break. A few days or a week usually helps me out. But you need to make sure not to make it a permanent break.

After a great workout today, I’m ready to tackle the rest of the week full of energy, healthy meals, and knowledge to proceed with my journey. Plus, there’s a wine festival this weekend! ;) It’s all about balance, right?

Workouts for the week 4/22-4/27:

sunday: 8 mile long run

monday: rest

tuesday: elliptical, weight training

wednesday: spinning class

thursday: jillian’s shed to shred levels 1 & 2

friday: 45 min. interval training on treadmill

Reaching that elusive goal

As I was reading the latest issue of fitness magazine, I came across an article titled “go for the goal”. The writer admits she had many goals that she wants to accomplish. I’ve mentioned it before. The writer, Joanne Chen also agrees to write down your goals. “(Write) with pen and paper, so you can’t delete it with the stroke of a key”. It becomes real. Sure you can throw away the paper, but you know what you are capable of. You also need to make mini goals so eventually you will reach your goal one step at a time. Reach for what you really want, and reach high suggests Chen.

Of course there will be challenges along the way. “Anticipating speed bumps prepares you for the work that’s necessary to achieve success.” Well hello, if everything was so easy to accomplish there wouldn’t be the greats to inspire us. Even successful people will struggle to keep their dream alive.

To keep sane and motivated, it’s best to surround yourself with goal-driven people. “Study after study has suggested that when we spend time with people who act decisively to get what they want, we begin to pursue our own objectives in a similar manner.” I don’t have many friends, but the few I have, I cherish. They push me to reach any type of goal I want. Even if it isn’t their type of thing. I have 4 of the greatest sisters. Throughout my weight loss adventures, they never said, “you need to stop”. With anything I do, they never hesitate to remind me how proud they are of me. Just yesterday, I was getting ready to hit the gym. I was having some tummy troubles and all I wanted to do was stay in bed. When I got there I sat in my car for a few minutes. Just then, my sis who watches Amani for me sent me this picture.

That was the best thing anyone could have done for me. I guess it was a sister sense. I immediately jumped out of my car and had the best weight lifting session. Usually the troubles are all in our head. We think too much about what we can’t do, we give up when we are on the brink of reaching our goals. “The more you practice your plan, the more it will turn into habit”. Every day you will immediately get up and want to work a little bit to carve out your end result.

So, why am I talking to you about goals today? I think it’s very important to set goals, achieve them, and move on to the next one. I think I’m ready to move on to the next one. I put all of time and effort into my blog and each post. I am asked to review products, attend events, or be featured. Fairy Healthy Life has grown so much in the past few months. I would like to be compensated for all my hard work, even if it is just a little bit. I don’t know what will come out of it, but I want to have my own website for this blog. I love blogging and all of the friendships I have formed. Right now, I have a graphic designer working with me to achieve this goal. We are still in the beginning stages, but I am very excited to see how it turns out. It’s funny that Chen, the writer in this article, is also working on the same goal of starting a website.

Is starting a website one of the goals in your future? Is there a dream you are working towards right now? Tell me, I want to know!
