Healthy Eating on Vacation (sort of)

For today’s WIAW, I bring you the delicious food I had on vacation in California. But you expected that, right?

Our first restaurant was The Yard House. I am in love with that place. We’ve been there a few times when we visit friends in Phoenix. My choice was a honey blonde. For some reason lately, I’m really not liking mixed cocktails too much anymore. I think I can really taste how much sugar is in those drinks now. The funny thing is I don’t even remember what I ate that night!

I bought one of these drinks from a Starbucks while waiting for the Amtrak train. I had try to get in my vegetables somehow! I really enjoyed it. Too bad they don’t carry them in any of the local ones around here.

This was one of my favorite breakfasts. It was at The Mix Restaurant and Lounge inside of The Hilton at Anaheim. I ordered the breakfast frittata and it was delicious. I didn’t finish all of my potatoes.

I just had to share Amani’s breakfast. She ordered pancakes with all the toppings she could dream of. I love how they put them separately so she can have fun adding what she wanted. The toppings were butter, powdered sugar, strawberries, chocolate sauce and syrup. She’s already asking for all of her meals to come in little cups.

It was nice to see many restaurants have a separate “healthy” section on their menus. You can still order from these and not be left out. Coco’s was no exception. First of all, they had the best coffee ever. I was very impressed. I ordered the vegetarian omelet. It had mushrooms, onions, tomatoes and broccoli. I asked them to prepare it using egg whites. You can save 130-150 calories by just doing this.

At The Hard Rock Café, I ordered a veggie burger with a side salad. It was a handmade patty with a portabella mushroom. I didn’t eat most of the bread because it can be too filling for me.

We found some amazing Baklava at a Mediterranean restaurant. I ate that all up! I will never turn down Baklava. Smile

This was the second ice cream I had on the trip. the first was a pistachio almond flavor on the pier but I forgot to take a picture. This one is a banana fosters flavor. Very creamy and sweet. I didn’t need much to satisfy my sweet tooth.

This breakfast was just as good as the others. They have al kinds of stuffed pancakes the size of those plates, but I was really craving some blueberry pancakes. They came with a blueberry compote. Me and Rudy were trying to figure out what was in those pancakes. It had a very distinctive rum flavoring. Very good! Another vegetable omelet on the side. Ha ha. I barely ate half of it.

I ate things that I hardly ever eat. Surprisingly, I didn’t gain any weight. That definitely had to do with all of the walking and realizing that I was full and when to put the fork down. I did make better choices than I ever had on any type of vacation, but there were times where I ate things that were fun and not so good for me. I packed my single packs of almond butter, chia seeds, granola bars and stevia. This helped so much! It is a learned process and I am still learning.

Right now, I am still adjusting from coming vacation foods. My body feels tired and drained but my mind is saying that I have so many things to do. I know it’s because I wasn’t eating my normal healthy foods that I prepare myself. Each day is getting easier though now that I’m eating lots of salads, sweet potatoes, and so many vegetables.
