Fairy Healthy Life

I love to cook healthy and look for new ways to add to my new healthy lifestyle

Labor Day Virtual Race

I woke up at 5:15 Sunday morning thinking, who virtually runs? Am I completely crazy for thinking there are other people around the country running too. No I’m not crazy. I’m determined. I’m motivated. And this is what I consider fun! I really love the running and fitness community. There are so supportive and keep me going to reach my goals.

I signed up about a week and a half ago for Mommy Run Fast’s Labor Day Virtual Run. It was my choice whether to run 5 or 10 miles. I immediately wanted to challenge myself so I chose 10 miles. It didn’t take long for me to second guess my decision. I haven’t ran double-digit miles since the half-marathon in February. My long runs have varied between 5-8 miles because of my knee injury. I have been feeling really good within the past few weeks. I didn’t want to ruin it by pushing myself too hard to finish 10 miles. Thank you Laura for doing this. I didn’t realize it would have that much of an impact in my life!

(I was in a pretty good mood before starting. That’s the key to a successful run)

So I thought, you know what, I’m just going to do what I can. Live in the moment and enjoy my “me” time.

Mile 1: 11:30 min/mi

Mile 2: 11:01 min/mi

Mile 3: 10:55 min/mi

Mile 4: 10:27 min/mi

Mile 5: 10:06 min/mi

Mile 6: 10:16 min/mi

Mile 7: 10:23 min/mi

Mile 8: 10:22 min/mi

Mile 9: 11:02 min/mi

Mile 10: 10:34 min/mi

Final time: 1:46:53

I started out feeling good; a little slow but I expected that. By the end, I was surprised I had gone that far. I was a little bit tired, but it didn’t feel forced like it had before. I was smiling, cheering myself on and very strong. I missed that. I love knowing that I can do anything I put my mind to. It’s always in our head. We need to talk ourselves out of the negativity and always focus on becoming our best. Easier said that done, right? As long as I take it one day at a time, I can look back a few months and say, wow I couldn’t do that or run that far back then.

I am so glad I participated in this. It renewed my love for running and reminded my why I love being fit so much. It always makes me happy.

crazy hair, sweaty mess but still smiling!

My post race meal was steel cut-oats with egg whites, almond butter, banana slices, chia seeds and cinnamon, Ezekiel toast and jelly; Tazo green tea on the side.

I bought Food should taste good oats from Costco. They are like frozen pucks of oats that you simply microwave. I added the egg whites just before microwaving. I love them because after a long run, the last thing I want to do is cook!

Did you participate in any Labor Day races? Would you ever do a virtual run?
