WIAW Vacation Prep
This week I am preparing my house, suitcase and mind for an exciting family vacation. I don’t want food to spoil, so I am trying to use up everything that I have on hand. Although I did need a few groceries, it was hard not to buy things at the grocery store. There were some great deals going on.
This month for What I Ate Wednesday the focus is Summer Staples. She’s so creative. Thank you Jenn for another great week. I still can’t believe it’s already August!
Breakfast
Overnight Oats. Fast, simple, fun!
Snack (pre-workout)
Apple and Genetix Pro Sculpt
Post- workout
Premier Protein sent me a few protein packed goodies a few weeks ago. I’ve tried the protein bars which are delicious! The chocolate peanut butter tastes identical to a snicker bar! So good! But today I finally tried the protein shake. The stats are great. 30g of protein, 3g of fat, and only 1 gram of sugar. If you see this brand anywhere, I recommend you pick it up. This shake helped tide me over until it was lunch time. Refreshing and simple for the summer heat when you don’t want to prepare anything.
Lunch
A great big salad with brussels sprouts, squash, asparagus, tomatoes and lemon juice. I was really craving some greens. This happens a lot.
Snack
My Mom helped my sister make some Baklava. Oh yeah. It was great. I loved that it wasn’t as drenched with syrup as it is traditionally prepared.. It’s been way too long since I’ve had this. I don’t have to worry about this staying in my house too long. My husband will eat it all up. Thank goodness.
Another summer snack staple for me is frozen yogurt. Mine are not usually that exciting. I love the yogurt more than the toppings. ![]()
Dinner
Another salad. I love salads in the summer because there are so many vegetables in season that your salad will never be the same. Plus, you can add whatever you want and there’s a minimum possibility it will taste bad.
What are your favorite summer staples?

Cute spoon in your overnight oats and great protein package!
Thank you! I can’t stand to throw them away.
Oats always taste 10x better when eaten from a jar, don’t they?! And no bowls to wash!
Yup! It doesn’t get any easier!
Yay for packages.. and a good one too
I seriously get as excited for packages as I do for Christmas, haha.
I know, it’s Christmas every month!
Nothing wrong w/ that
lol. All of our mail gets sent to the hubs work address on base. Well yesterday my new running shoes came in & he forgot them there. I was so upset when he told me the “terrible” news last night. I mean seriously, does he not realize that I look forward to packages lol.
Packages are awesome! Especially if they have to do with running. What shoes did you get?
That’s the second time I’ve seen baklava today… mmmm, so good. I love your bright colourful salad too! Happy WIAW!
Ha ha! It’s a very rare treat for me. Happy WIAW to you!
All your eats look delicious!
Thank you!!
I’ve never tried baklava, but yours looks so good and the fact that it’s homemade of course makes it even better!
Homemade is always better! You must try it!
That baklava looks great, I have always wanted to learn how to make some
A few people have asked, so I’ll put together the recipe soon!
Better n’ PB is blowin’ up WIAW this week. Have you noticed? I wish I would’ve put it on mine today, love that stuff.
Ha ha, Yes!! I like it better than PB2. I have yet to try the banana flavor though.
I love oats in a jar…you just reminded me that I have a jar ready for it too.
I use the prosculpt too! I’d much rather prefer the fruit punch over the blue raspberry though. I can’t wait to finish it up so I can switch back!
I’m going to have to keep my eyes peeled for that Premier shake. I normally use muscle milk but am open to trying new stuff.
I haven’t tried the fruit punch. I’ll try it next time too!
Overnight oats are my go to breakfast when I am in a rush. They taste even better when in an empty nut butter jar
Of course, it’s crazy how simple and nutritious it is! No fast food needed.
I received the bars/shakes but haven’t tried yet. Glad to know they are tasty!
I’m sure you’ll love them! Great fuel!
